Doire Cholmcille Ladies was founded in the year 2001, under initial management of Fearghal Mag Uiginn and Marlynn Hanna. Only in its first year into the county league and championship, Colmcille had sustained dominance in a very successful year. Players still yet to know one anothers names played together in coherent games one after the other each resulting in wins. In actual fact Colmcille had completed a series of games within the junior league and championship undefeated.
The underage minor blitz that had taken part in Glen Maghera was the first indication that colmcille were a strong and talented team which caused threat and rupture to other clubs reputuation in the county. The minor blitz was colmcille's first match in the championship and they had been placed second in the county with a defeat against Glen Maghera, a grounded side that has spent many years within the intermediate league.
Colmcille had quietly moved through the county league and found themselves in the final coming top team in the league status. The league final had taken place in Ballerin against Ballinascreen, Colmcille not one to disappoint had again found victory and were announced Junior league winners of 2001.

~Colmcille were in top form having being more familiar with their teams mates and their playing tactics, they moved into the championship. They had learnt that a defeat at any stage of the championship would mean the finish of their first year of games. However Colmcille had developed over the months with additional training sessions, and commitment of all their members, they were indeed a better team and were determined to hold their run of undefeated matches within the county. After a tight semi-final with Ballinascreen resulting in a draw, Colmcille had learned that thir route to victory would not be as easy in the championship, they had to persivere until the final whistle to result in the victory that they deserved. The encounter of Ballinascreen was indeed a wake-up call to the team which they had developed and grown from this match.
Again the girls had found themselves on the pitch of yet another county final. The venue was Ballinascreen, the date; 19th August, the opponents; Ardtea, the title: Junior County Champions 2001. Again Colmcille had concorded in a Double victory of their first introduction into the Ladies gaelic football of the county. One of the club's managers: Marlynn Hanna had departed the team following this match.
Colmcille had been asked to take part in an All-Ireland 7-a-side championship in Dublin, inwhich ten girls from the club had been selected to represent the club. In this competition colmcille had again had a victorious succession of games, and found themselves again in a final, however they had been beaten.
As the ten players returned from dublin training had been taken place in preparation for Colmcille's entrance to the Ulster Championship. Their first opponents outside the county was the junior representatives from Monaghan, however, things had not gone as hopes, and the clubs dreams were slashed as they departed the Ulster Championship.

Following Colmcille's victory in the Junior Championship they were introduced to the intermediate grounds of the county. The club had campaigned for an additional year within the junior section, but it was dis-allowed. The girls now competite in the Intermediate league and Championship.
